With the Government’s increasing focus on sustainable development, many construction companies are recognising the need to prove that their buildings are built with sustainability in mind.

One element of this is in the responsible sourcing of products used in their construction and the onus of proof is increasingly being passed down to the manufacturers of those construction products. Many codes of practice and British standards are quoted.

ISO 14001:2004

Bison is ISO14001/2008 accredited, view certificates for our Swadlincote site. This accreditation sets out the criteria for an Environmental Management System. It does not state requirements for environmental performance, but maps out a framework that a company or organisation can follow to set up an effective Environmental Management System. Using ISO 14001:2008 can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that the environmental impact of the accredited business is being measured and improved.

BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products

BES 6001

We have recently achieved accreditation for BES 6001.

The BRE standard BES 6001 has been published to enable construction product manufacturers to ensure and then prove that their products have been made with constituent materials that have been responsibly sourced. The standard describes a framework for the organisational governance, supply chain management and environmental and social aspects that must be addressed in order to ensure the responsible sourcing of construction products.

BREEAM

Bison is able to provide evidence to satisfy the requirements of BREEAM.

BREEAM is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings. Thus far 250,000 buildings have certified BREEAM assessment ratings and over a million registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990.

BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance. It encourages designers, clients and others to think about low carbon and low impact design, minimising the energy demands created by a building before considering energy efficiency and low carbon technologies.

Environmental Management System

Bison has an Environmental Management System. An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a framework that helps a company achieve its environmental goals through consistent control of its operations. Increased control will improve the environmental performance of the company.
